…and welcome to The Six Fifty, an online magazine celebrating life, culture and ideas around the SF Peninsula. Yeah, that’s right — the 6–5–0 area code…now you’ve got it.
We’re a group of local journalists exploring this curious corner of California that is bookended north to south by San Francisco & San Jose. It’s a remarkable region that is home to monster waves, giant pumpkins and some world famous unicorns. We have Michelin-starred restaurants, dive bars deep in the woods and vending machines that crank out bowls of hot ramen.
The 650 is a place that is both changing and changing the world, though as you probably already know, the day-to-day of local life here can often get overshadowed in the media by the biggest of Big Tech. With that in mind, we’ve decided to dive deep on covering it all at the local level, from the fishing boats at Pillar Point Harbor to the running trails of the Baylands. So we promise to clue you into the latest happenings even as we search out the area’s many hidden stories.
