For more than two decades, the Palo Alto Weekly an For more than two decades, the Palo Alto Weekly and Palo Alto Art Center have teamed up to bring exposure to images taken by budding and professional photographers of all ages through the annual photo contest, which includes entries from anyone who works, lives or attends school in the 650 area code, from Daly City to Sunnyvale. Each of this year’s winning images, which were taken between 2017 and 2022, uniquely capture slices of life as they unfolded at home, outdoors and abroad. Eataly Silicon Valley has a rooftop restaurant and a store carrying over 10,000 traditional Italian food products. With such a large selection of items, it can be a difficult place to navigate. The shrapnel and explosions from the Boston Marath The shrapnel and explosions from the Boston Marathon news footage still felt fresh when Kelly Gahagan, Naomi Gutierrez Cook and Kristi Nemes met with their families for a run in the south end of Pacifica on April 17, 2013. Swimming with the collective grief of the tragedy that killed three spectators and injured over 200 others just two days earlier, the self-dubbed “Amigos run for Boston in Pacifica” hit the sand on a 1 mile out-and-back stretch. The mothers chatted about how they longed for a local group that would inspire runners and their families to race and felt like a community. @katrynsy, a Foster City native and current reside @katrynsy, a Foster City native and current resident who works as a software engineer at @linkedin in Mountain View, is part of the skateboarding collective @unityskateboarding, which aims to make skateboarding more accessible for the LGBTQ community and has a skate team associated with it. Sy’s experiences as a queer Asian American female skateboarder are being highlighted in a short film being shown at the Center for Asian American Media’s 40th CAAMFest, which runs through May 22. “Crashing Wheels on Concrete,” by filmmaker So Young Shelly Yo, follows the ups and downs of Sy’s life through her love of skateboarding as she graduates from college and takes on the challenges of adulthood. Kids and their pets — everything from pooches to Kids and their pets — everything from pooches to parrots, turtles to tarantulas — have taken to downtown Los Altos every Saturday following Mother’s Day for decades for the annual Los Altos Kiwanis Pet Parade. On Saturday, the parade will celebrate its 75th anniversary, kicking off at 10 a.m. with its largest-ever number of entrants. To mark the milestone year, the Los Altos History Museum put together an exhibit, “Kiwanis Pet Parade: Celebrating 75 Years of Community,” on display now through July 10.
